Starting on Tuesday all NFL Teams can start to use or discuss the franchise for the players that’s going to be set to be free agents this offseason. As seen in the tweet below as per Ian Rapoport of ESPN/NFL Network.

Currently the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have to figure out who they will actually use the Franchise Tag on if they can not work out a deal with said player, but rumors floating around that player is likely to be WR Chris Godwin, both Ian Rapoport & local Bucs legends Pewter Report have both came out and said that Godwin is the likely target for the franchise tag.
Chris Godwin is only 4 NFL years old at the age of 24 and has already accomplished a lot in his career so far behind teammate and friend WR Mike Evans. Let’s check some of his feats so far.
- Super Bowl champion (LV)
- Pro Bowl (2019)
- Second-team All-Pro (2019)
- 2020 NFL Top 100 (#38) (Voted by other NFL members / players)
- 14.5 career avg. per catch
- 2x NFC Offensive Player of the Week
- Finished 3rd with 1,333 yards for all WR’s
- 244 career catches
- 3,540 yards
- 24 Touchdowns
Chris Godwin has been one of the most important piece’s of this offense due to doing a lot of dirty work that most wouldn’t see due to Mike Evans and other’s on the the team getting some attention or double teamed but in all Godwin is one of the main Bucs that will need to be locked up for long term.
With more income coming for the 2022 salary cap in the NFL, it could double after next season so tagging Godwin for 2021 could help give the Bucs more room in 2022 to resign Godwin to a bigger deal.
