Bucco Bruce Coming Back in 2021?

Now that the 2020 NFL season has come to a close and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are your Super Bowl Champions once again, it is now officially NFL Draft & Free Agent season which means that the NFL will look into the rule changes at some point for the 2021 season and beyond and the main task on that list has been speculated to be the helmet rule.

For the past seven years, the NFL has had a rule in place that only allows teams to wear one helmet, but it appears that rule could be changing in the 2021 NFL season, which means we might soon get to see the return of some classic throwback uniforms, starting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During an interview on the Dan Patrick Show Back in March 2020, Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians was asked if the Creamsicle throwback would be returning when the team unveils its new uniforms next month (then back in April), and Arians gave a very intriguing answer.

“Once the helmet rule changes next year, we might have some Creamsicle and some throwbacks, which I think, are the best uniforms in the league,” Arians said.

Due to the one-helmet rule, the Buccaneers were only allowed to wear their Pewter helmet, which had upset so many Bucs fans who was looking forward to one weekend out of the season we would fill Raymond James Stadium with an “Orange Out”. The one-helmet rule was put into place as a way to improve player safety. If the rule is scrapped starting in 2021, that means that multiple teams around the league will be able to start wearing their throwback helmets again. For one, the Buccaneers could return to their Creamsicle throwbacks and get to see our Super Bowl Champions in those classic uniforms.

As for other teams that could potentially benefit, there’s the Patriots, Broncos, Eagles, Falcons, Bills and Seahawks, to name a few that would get a chance to bring back their classic looks as well which would be an interesting idea that on Thursday Night Football games in the 2021 season teams who have these classic looks can choose that option over their current “Color Rush Options”.

Can’t wait to find out what the NFL is going to do in the matter, but it would be amazing to see these throwbacks back in cycle and in Raymond James Stadium at least one more time.
