This Afternoon the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have place the franchise tag on WR Chris Godwin keeping the option open for a long-term deal next season when the salary cap will go back up and the Buccaneers will have the room to give Godwin a bigger contract. Godwin finished second on the team in 2020 with 65 catches for 840 yards and seven touchdowns, then led the Bucs with 232 receiving yards in the postseason.
The Buccaneers used the “non-exclusive” franchise tag on Godwin, meaning he can negotiate with other teams but Tampa Bay retains a right to match any contract offer. If Godwin does sign with another team and the offer is not matched, that team must send two first-round draft picks to the Buccaneers. Scott Smith – Buccaneers.com

Then reports from NFL Network & ESPN analyst Ian Rapoport tweeted out that the Buccaneers have resigned 8-year veteran LB Lavonte David to a $25M 2 year contract extension and as Mike Garafolo shortly after tweeted this out, so basically the Bucs resigned LD to a five-year deal to give the Buccaneers plenty of cap space for the next several years. Lavonte David & Devin White lead the Buccaneers in tackles in both the regular and postseason and keeping David in Tampa Bay was a huge part of keeping this roster as together as possible for the 2021 repeat campaign
It’ll be a five-year deal with three voidable years for LB Lavonte David that keeps his cap number at a manageable $3.5 million for the #Buccaneers this year. Voidable years are all the rage this year as teams maneuver around the cap decrease.

So Far Godwin & David has been retained as Buccaneers, now the question when will the Buccaneers announce the signing of LB Shaquil Barrett within the next several days hopefully according to Rapoport & Schefter, Barrett is currently the next FA that’s expected to be retained.
